Sign Language Workshops For Children and Young People

From 2011 Ayesha Communications has run several workshops with local home educators’ networks and Out of School Clubs, as well as providing support to families with young deaf children.

Each session is based on a theme, for example, animals, colours, food and drink, nature and so on. A sign song is always included as is a recap of signs learnt previously. Participants are encouraged to practice deaf awareness with me as I am deaf, and to ask questions about life as a deaf person. They are also given the opportunity to handle equipment used by deaf people and think about the ways in which deafness can impact people’s lives.

Workshops are available on request, please contact for more information.

Deaf Awareness Seminars

From 2010 Ayesha Communications has offered this course to corporate clients for in house staff training and for other employers/subcontractors.

The 10/12 hour course includes facts about deafness, such as recognising when someone may have a hearing loss, lipreading and clear communication tactics, some basic BSL and an overview of how easy it is to provide an equal and more effective service to customers and clients, and fulfil your obligations under the Equality Act.

Ayesha Communications can help with all aspects of the journey a family makes when a child is found to have hearing loss. This ranges from basic signs for babies and children, hints and tips on better communication and hearing aid care, support and advice for parents, signposting and where to go for assistive technologies and deaf role models.

Schools Sign Language Workshops

Our one hour workshops designed for schools are perfect for after school clubs and are lots of fun!

Suitable for KS1 or KS2 children, we cover topics such as food and drink, animals, colours, family signs and lots lots more! Children become confident using what they have learnt and have the opportunity to work towards the BSL 101 certificate (the first part of the nationally recognised Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language qualification) in a run of further workshops.

The response to the workshops which launched in 2015 has been fantastic - so contact us to book us for your school now!

Support for Learners

Every 6 weeks we organise an outing such as a meal, to a theatre with an interpreted performance, to the cinema to a subtitled film and more. This gives our students a chance to meet and socialise between groups, building confidence in signing with people from all 'levels' and using BSL in real world situations.
